Good lord Mr Drought, are you stalking me?!?! The Long Shadow of Evo casts itself again...
I think I will most likely go with NFS over Solaris if I can get past the installation niggles - I'm using Dell GX620s which are certified to work with OS, but I have problems with networking [which are noted and there are workarounds] and it seems to pick up the DVI-VGA splitter as having a second monitor on it, and automagically setting up dual display, which is a pain. Going to throw it on a Lenovo box when I get back in full-time after the festive break and see if that works any better. In the meantime I have experimented with OpenFilers [google it] NFS and iSCSI systems and they seem OK, so OS+NFS over ZFS would seem to be a good way forward for the setup while it's still in alpha/beta, and being used as a test platform - the ETA for my VMware setup going production is still currently *seriously* up in the air.... Cheers for the input BTW, especially from the Sun chaps :-) PS: Bri, persevere with *nix, when it clicks, it's bloody magic, in general pretty much all *nix platforms make Win32/64 look archaic, bloated and horrifically wasteful in comparison. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
