Since the ball has already started to roll on this, I'd like to 'officially' ask for feedback on my current proposed design for link layer discovery support (specifically LLDP -- possibly in the future other protocols such as CDP or EDP can be added in). The current documentation can be seen at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/lld/design
Nothing in the design is set in stone -- if anyone has a better suggestion, please, please say something. A prototype (it doesn't implement the proposed design exactly -- it was more to allow me to get a better understanding of peripheral issues around implementation) can be downloaded by cloning ssh://[email protected]/hg/lld/lld-proto2 and the source can be viewed at http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/lld/lld-proto2 I've included the storage community since the FCoE implementation will have some dependencies on it (and FCoE appears to straddle both communities), and so the current design will need to be extended to accommodate that. I want to be sure I'm starting with something that looks likely to work with that. My current plan is after a few weeks of review to hopefully find an ARC sponsor and submit it to ARC for approval. Once approved to get on with the real implementation. If anyone feels this is the wrong approach, please speak up -- I've been navigating this pretty much on my own and any input from those more experienced on the whole process is much appreciated. _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
