I'm doing a path analysis of sync NFS traffic so I can understand how to
best use a slog device. But I'm wondering if I've made a mistake in my
understanding:

On a 1Gbps network with a 1Gb switch a 32kB packet will take 0.5ms (*) to
travel between the client and the server. Assuming 0.5ms to sync the IO to
the slog (SSD say) and margin time to ACK back to the client. Then the
latency of a 32kB NFS packet is about 1ms or 1000 packets/s.

(*) 1Gbps is 125kB/ms and divide by two in order to account for switch -
62.5kB/ms.

This means a maximum of 32MB/s bandwidth in a switched network for sync NFS
IO.

Have I missed something?

Nicholas
