What kind of "dynamic" do you want. Here are the kinds of dynamic I
know about:
It is possible:
a) to add new volumes and new views while the system is in operation
b) to create "thin provisioned" LUNs where the physical backing store
starts small and then is automatically expanded as needed up to the
allocated size of the LUN.
And there is some support for
c) dynamic LUN expansion -- which is to automatically notify initiators
when a LU changes size (at which point the initiator system has to do
the work of figuring how to include that new space in its existing
storage structure). At one point, doing this required matching manual
commands to both the zfs command to expand the ZVOL and the stmfadm
utility to expand the LU to match the new ZVOL size. It may be even
more automatic now.
