I have an 2009/06 RAIDZ already with 4 x 750GB drives. There's only 4 sata ports on the m/b, but I need to add more drives, so have been looking and researching into supported sata controllers. I seem to have narrowed down the search to a sil3142 based controller (4 port), and as far as I know and read here and elsewhere it's supported. My question is then about the disks I want to attach to this controller, being Samsung 1.5TBs. What actually controls the support of the disk, is it the controller or the bios on the motherboard or both ??
Before I order the controller and disks, I just want to make sure that Opensolaris will be able to see and use these 1.5TB disks. I don't want to find out that the controller works, but it can't see this large sized disk. Can anyone enlighten me please ?
