Hi, I have a SAS HBA which uses the PMC-Sierra PM8001 controller. The card is made by ATTO and produces Vendor and Device ID of: 117C,46 (per the Driver Utility)
After an install of OS 2009.6 which I updated to b128, the Driver Utility still showed the driver for this HBA as missing and when I clicked on "Install Driver" the Driver Utility said it was "not found". The driver that I believe supports the device is: pmcs for which the source can be found at: xref: /onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/uts/common/io/scsi/adapters/pmcs The driver however, is not listed in the MAN pages and I did not find any real traffic about it or the PM8001 controller on the OS Wiki when searching about. The system file, /etc/driver_aliases, had no entry for pmcs so I added the line, pmcs "pci117c,46", per the instructions I found at: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/techtips/assign_device_to_driver.jsp I then issued the command, update_drv pmcs, per the instructions but the command failed with the message: "Failed to update pmcs.conf for driver" On the outside chance the driver files needed to be present I also copied the binary, pmcs and pmcs.conf to the /kernel/drv directory. I obtained these files from a 128 build. I tried the update command again with the same results so I am guessing I am way out in left field somewhere... I presume the Driver Utility is not finding the driver on the web because it does not recognize the Vendor and Device ID. The install did not provide the driver probably for the same reason. It seems that the solution lay with the aliase file but the addition of the line did not seem to change any behavior. I know there is a PM8001 adapter in use at SUN with an ID of pciex11f8,8001 but this entry is not in the OS installed aliase file or in the HCL up on the Wiki either Yet the driver source is in the tree and the driver gets built... Can somebody educate me on how to get a driver installed when the Driver Utility tool does not recognize the Vendor and Device ID of the device AND the driver isn't yet in the database apparently.
