Thanks for the prompt responses. After the initial hangs, I became aware (through these forums) but hadn’t observed any evidence of the LSI issue you’ve mentioned but then again, I’ve none for any other obvious cause.
I think the expedient course of action will be to replace the LSI with the newer model, add the appropriate switches to the boot arguments, disable the GUI and try it all again. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks with progress. At the very least I should be able to generate some diagnostic data. Thanks again to you both.
