I'm using the intel d510 motherboard which has the newer NM10 chipset.
It works well, with two exceptions: the realtek driver in 2009.06
doesn't support multicast ip (fixed in snv133 I think); and there is
no video driver for the pinetrail graphics so it uses the VESA driver.
My machine will mostly be headless, so this doesn't bother me too much.

Which motherboards are you using? Both that I've tried have the ICH7-M
but don't have an AHCI setting in the bios. I've tried the Intel
D945GCLF2 and the Asus TS-MINI.
