I am running with kernel 2.2.13. I need a higher kernel number for my
modem drivers, as I have griped before, so I went with 2.2.16 from kernels.org.

I have been though the process twice, the first time with config, the
second time with xconfig. I am following the instructions both in the
README and in the Linux kernel HOWTO, which is printed out right beside me.

Root seems to have both new kernels, and the one original kernel that I
backed up manually. I can tell they are different by their sizes and
dates. The most current one is /vmlinuz.

The problem is when I uname -r I still get 2.2.13. KDE says I am running
2.2.13. Its bumming me out.

To get into Linux, I am still booting off my CDROM drive.

What am I doing wrong?
