I just installed Storm ("Rain Edition"). Except for some oddities with
installation that were corrected by re-installation (and I think I know what
half of those were now), it went pretty well. But I just can't get the hang
of this package management.

First, all I wanted to do was the boot-floppies package, so I could make a
good boot/root disk set. dselect came up with all sorts of conflicts.

I aborted that one (with "X") and decided to try a simple game (xconq). I
selected it, and got a bunch more conflicts, many having to do with various
perturbations of libc. Plus a whole bunch of packages were selected for
install (and most looked like the same version I had).

So I thought I'd go to "All packages", hit "=" (for "hold"), and then select
just xconq. The "=" seemed to only get applied to a few packages; the rest
were still selected. I decided to try to get out of dselect. In the
process, I wound up getting into the "Install" stage: it said it wanted to
upgrade 40 packages and download a total of 40MB! Fortunately, it let me
abort at this point.

Rather than asking for a tutorial on dselect, here are just a couple of
basic questions:

1. How do I tell it to just download the package I want, and not everything
that's changed since my CD was made?

2. How do I get the "status" file back to the way it was originally? I
think I severely messed it up trying to get it to do what I wanted, and I
don't trust the state it's in now.

Thanks.
