I guess your default MTA is exim -this would be standard in Debian.
run eximconfig as root and answer the questions. As Robert pointed out,
if you don't have your domain than you'll have to configure exim
to get the mail from your ISP's mailserver(I think it's called smarthost
in options but they're well commented)
