I have one more "bug" that's been around since rain and was hoping it would
be fixed when hail arrived, but it wasn't (at least not the way I did it).

The "bug" is in relation to a startup message I get about loadkeys failing.
The problem is, this message is not tracked in ANY of the log files (at
least I haven't found it). Here's the message in it's entirety.

Loading /etc/kbd/default.kmap.gz
/bin/loadkeys: /etc/kbd/default.kmap.gz:4: cannot open include file
qwerty-layout

I can run loadkeys from the command prompt and don't get the error message,
but the keyboard doesn't work right (compared with RedHat 6.2 on the same
system, just different drive).

I went through all kinds of troubleshooting with Techsupport from rain, but
it didn't solve anything. I'll provide as much info as I can here.

checking /etc/kbd/default.kmap.gz, it has the following attributes:

 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 635 Mar 21 14:31 default.kmap.gz

/etc/kbd has the following attributes:

 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0124 Jul 17 14:46 kbd

I know backspace does not work like it should in vi (again, compared with
RedHat on the same system) but it does work at the command line. I also note
that my printscreen key does not work in games that use it for screenshots
;-(

Here's the first few
lines of the file:

#us.map
keymaps 0-2,4-6,8-9,12
alt_is_meta
include "qwert-layout"
include "linux-with-alt-and-altgr"
strings as usual

note my error message refers to the "qwerty-layout".

duckwing@Mallard:~$ df

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 1942410 204424 1637582 11% /
/dev/hda2 1942442 107476 1734560 6% /home
/dev/hda3 3881224 1634498 2045914 44% /usr

the file qwerty-layout is stored in:

/usr/share/keymaps/i386/include/qwerty-layout.inc.gz

at that stage in the boot process, the /usr partition is not mounted thus
the error maybe????

however, I have a similar setup on the same system on a separate HD that
runs RedHat (for testing purposes) and I don't have problems.

Another Stormix developer (Wesley) said that /etc/kbd/default.kmap.gz
is a symlink into /usr/share/keymaps which would cause my problem. However,
this is NOT the case and never has been. the problem is something else, but
I do not know what.

thanks.
