I recently wrote about 2 hrs ago re: scane not recognizing my scanner.
After 6 hrs of frustration I figured out the prob. sane did not know
about my scanner b/c it checks the file /etc/sane.conf to see availible
scanners. That file did not exist for me b/c I only did a make and the
cd frontend; ./xscanimage. A make install places the sane.conf file.
Embarassing huh? I just hate installing something that won't work, oh
well learned my lesson. Scanner works great (Acer 640U).

But...
When I had it working last time I had gimp support compiled into
xscanimage. I installed libgimp-dev packaage. When I run ./configure
it says "checking for gimp.h.......yes". But when I compiled it and ran
xscanimage -g, I get: "no gimp support". I did not have to use anyflags
last time. I decided to search for the file gimp.h myself, but could
not find it either.

Anyone else have this problem? It must be something simple, b/c this is
the same procedure and same source code I used before I trashed my
system, and it worked then.

.yes, I know this should be going to sane mailing list, it will be as
soon as I get my confirmation of subscription bs.

Thanks
