Really? I've been using Debian for a few years. It seems to me that it
always
worked like that. How did one ask for modules to be loaded?

True it doesnt make much sense...let me know if you fix the problem.

As for the tools they are not needed for many mouses. I even got the
wheel to work in XFree 4.0.1 without any tools...
