I always used to use TkDesk - then some many months ago it started
crashing on me whenever I clicked on a directory which opened another
pane. I looked around for a replacement and stumbled upon EmelFM - it uses
the gtk libs so looks good with gnome. What is more, it allows full drag
and drop with the gnome desktop. I run it with gtksu so that I can give
the root password and do system admin stuff easily while logged on as a
regular user. It looks like a GUI version of Midnight Commander and has
excellent functionality. There is an article about it in the latest Linux
Gazette (www.linuxgazette.com).
