I've found that Ars Technica's three sample DYI systems ("God Box", "Hot Rod"
and "Budget Box") are usually well considered. The God Box suggests an ABIT VP6
and dual P3 1GHz for $147 + 2 * $259 = $665US. I have no personal experience
with this configuration, but ABIT usually makes a good motherboard.
