John:
You may have finally found the solution to the GSE
mess. In return for you and everyone else affected by the pollution of the
ethanol plant agreeing to support a downtown stadium at that location, the city
will finally close down or relocate the GSE operation. So isn't this a sweet
irony? GSE will be paid millions to relocate or shut down the ethanol plant,
taxpayers will get to foot the bill for a new stadium that will divert revenues
for the next thirty years, and Randy Kelly will be seen as the
"enviromental" mayor for finally taking action against GSE. Stranger things have
happened in politics, trust me.
BTW, you might be interested to know that the
"preferred"--indeed the only location being touted in downtown Mpls. for a Twins
stadium--is located near the HC garbage burner. I'm sure folks are just going to
love sitting several stories above the ground in an outdoor stadium breathing in
whatever "safe" particles are spewed by the stack from that
facility.
So there you have it--odor versus inhalants. I'm
sure that will make a catchy slogan during the inevitable "debate" about which
city is better for the stadium: "Our stadium site is safer than yours." Just
can't wait to see the fireworks begin.
