St. Paul E-Democracy Links http://www.e-democracy.org/stpaul/links.html _________________________________________Brionna Harder makes a very good point. Assuming away for a moment the corporate frauds and looters who have been getting lots of attention lately, anyone who runs a for-profit enterprise in a socially responsible way is still going to be trying to get the most efficient match between the goods or services offered and the paying customers who will benefit by them. One of the primary ways to get such an efficient match is by recognizing potential customers who cannot be efficiently served, and consciously or unconsciously choosing not to serve them. Among customers for education, parents who for whatever reason are not taking an active helping part in their children's education will inevitably have children who are harder to serve. So all the educational manager has to do is market hard to the parents who are interested and involved, tailor services to meet their perceived needs, respond to their concerns -- in general follow all the sound business practices. And the end result will be that the children who need the most help will tend to be crowded out of the market, and ignored.
