Post news and information from your neighborhood: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________ As I venture up and down University Avenue I have been watching the building of the new Mai Village with increasing interest. It is obviously huge compared to the old diggs. This week I got a sneek preview of the inside of the new restaurant and, frankly, all I can say is WOW. Where to start?
The light fixtures. They all seem to be unique, each one a bit different from the next. They are covered in silk and have very interesting shapes. There is a little pond for fish with a walking bridge over it (no pennies in this pond, they kill the fish). The huge dining area can be broken up into more intimate rooms with hand carved wooden dividers. There is silk everywhere. Even the ceiling over the small dance floor is covered in vibrant blue hand decorated silk. Apparently the owners have been on a major shopping spree in their native Viet Nam! I have always liked both the food and the service at Mai Village, but frankly could not stand the smoke. Ngoan Dang, the owner, said the new restaurant will be smokefree, including in the bar, because he wants people to taste and smell his food... and he does not want all the silk damaged. YEA! I can hardly wait. The original plan was to open in November. Mid February now looks like when the doors will open. And another plus for University Ave. We have not had an upscale place like this along the Avenue since the hay day of the Blue Horse. Biagio near Raymond is obviously also a big plus, but not as impressive as this. Jeanne Weigum, standing corrected, not at the historic Security Building, but at the historic Upham Building, University Ave. -- Jeanne Weigum 651-646-3005 fax 651-646-0142 _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/ _____________________________________________ For state and national discussions see: http://e-democracy.org/discuss.html For external forums, see: http://e-democracy.org/mninteract
