CVS wants to build a size 9 store on a size 13 lot. It also wants to
treat St. Paul's most heavily trafficed intersection with a standard
issues store. Below is a story about how Inver Grove Heights' citizens
dealt with a similar problem.... with Walmart. Saint Paulites who want
to insure responsive development by CVS can attend the first public
hearing Feb 5, 3:30, Zoning Committee, council chambers.

Oh, and another thing. Several people contacted me off line and asked
where Mai Village is. Sorry I left that out. University and Western.

                      Citizen construction workers build
                      community

Inver Grove Heights is a metropolitan gem
featuring wetlands, tree-lined
neighborhoods and, now, one of the country's most
beautiful Wal-Marts.

                      Beautiful/Wal-mart. Citizen involvement/suburb.
Many people view these
word associations as the ultimate oxymorons. But
they're reality in a
place where residents worked outside the big box
to create a big box that
                      works.

The journey to the majestic Wal-Mart began three
years ago. Developers
invited residents of the area to learn about their
proposal for a valuable
prairie parcel. At the meeting, you'd have thought
the developers were
awarding us the winning Powerball ticket.
