Dear List Members:

As many of you are aware, a group of almost a dozen participants of this forum have held a series of meetings about the future of the St. Paul Issues Forum.

As a group, our goal is to establish a St. Paul Chapter of E-Democracy that is responsible for supporting and overseeing the St. Paul Issues Forum. In addition, we would like to see St. Paul E-Democracy take an aggressive role in promoting the use of online tools to encourage citizen participation in community and city-wide decision making.

We believe that the St. Paul Issues Forum (Mailing List) is only one of many strategies that we can use to engage citizens in decision making and encourage their participation in the local political process.

Below, you will find an early draft that attempts to define our vision for St. Paul E-Democracy. We are looking for additional citizens and community organizations that are willing to help us finalize this "mission statement" and build our organization.

Our goal goes beyond bringing St. Paul politics "online." We hope to use Internet tools to create fundamental changes in the way that citizens interact with elected officials in St. Paul and create new and innovative opportunities for citizen involvement in decision making.

Please, consider joining us as we attempt to bring citizen participation in St. Paul into the 21st century.

DRAFT MISSION STATEMENT:
------------------------

The Mission of St. Paul E-Democracy is to inform,
engage, and empower citizens in the public life of
our community, by building online forums and other tools
for citizen engagement and making them accessible
   to the community.

We seek to improve the quality of public policy
decision making in our city by broadening citizen
participation and by linking the diverse voices of our
citizenry to community leaders and elected officials
in a civil and respectful exchange of information and ideas.

Sincerely,
