As a resident of the Lex-Ham and Midway areas for the
past 4 years, I have often wondered what kind of
ridiculous red tape was blocking development on the
corner of University/Lexington.
I drive past that intersection at least twice a day,
and it infuriates me that this area has gone untouched
for such a long time.

I am firmly in favor of a Home Depot being built on
that site (but have also heard they are scheduled to
build on Snelling & 94 on the old bus depot site).
Imagine what it could do for this "Corridor of Hope"
(as Mayor Kelly so eloquently put it in last year's
State of the City address...).

Granted, the addition of yet another big-box retailer
on the strip won't solve all of University's issues,
but it sure could help (and it would be awfully
convenient to MUCH of the Twin Cities).

As for housing... who knows what that would/would not
do for the area? All I know is that a KFC, Un-Bank,
White Castle, and a boarded-up gas station are not
doing anything for that intersection (except for
satisfying our late-night post-bar cravings), much
less our property values.

It's time for action. 5 years of vacancy (and apathy)
is inexcusable-and embarassing-in Mayor Kelly's
"Corridor of Hope".

Does anyone have any good, solid leads on what's
really going to happen (if anything)?? Please say
it's something...anything...
