Please don't over-dramatize our supposedly war-torn area. I work within
walking distance of Arnellia's and I feel very safe and have been working
here on University ave. for over 6yrs. There are stupid violent people
all over this metro area and you never know when one of them is going to
rub shoulders with you. It is one of very few venues catering to people
who love a particular type of music in St. Paul and one of the few
Black-owned businesses still trying to survive in St. Paul. I don't drink
so I don't frequent bars anyway but I understand why others enjoy them. I
think the owners just need to continue to cooperate with the neighbors and
the police to allow everyone involved to minimize incidents of stupidity.
Also I know the police are working very hard to minimize the drug
dealing. It is much easier to work with this problem on university ave.
due to its visibility. But in other neighborhoods, just because it isn't
as visible, doesn't mean it is not there. I've lived in the midway for
almost twenty years and I find it a very pleasant place to live. wan

Hmmm. No one wants to say anything about Arnellia's huh? Scurred?

Ruben Rosario had a great article about the police man in the pioneer
press this week.

Feruary 24,
RUBN ROSARIO: Off-duty cops truly never off duty

But, there is a problem at Arnellia's. Everyone knows it. Of course, it
isn't just Arnellia's. It's the whole Lexington/ University Area.

I LOVE going to Arnellia's. They have the best jazz around. But, and
that's a huge BUT, it isn't safe. It isn't safe anywhere down there. It
isn't even safe at the white castle on the corner. Drug deals going down
all the time.

It sure would be nice to see a stronger police presence in that area.
Before too many other people get killed.
