The Mississippi Corridor Neighborhood Coalition (MCNC), through a grant from
the Bush Foundation,

will be conducting three community education forums in 2004 to address
pollution, human health and the health

of the environment in the neighborhoods along the upper Mississippi River
corridor in Minneapolis.

 Air Monitoring and Effects of Air Pollution in Minneapolis� Upper
Mississippi River Corridor: What are we really breathing? Why do you need an
inhaler? 

Why so many air alerts?

March 20, Saturday: Logan Park, Monroe and Broadway Streets NE, 9:30 a.m. to
noon 

 FACT: Asthma is the number one cause for absenteeism in Minneapolis
Schools, according to the Minneapolis School District.

FACT: Our rate is twice the national rate of asthma and the national asthma
rate is twice the rate of what it was just twenty years ago.

FACT:  Cumulative effects of all types of point and non-point source
pollution, from heavy indusrial to automotive exhaust to local small
manufacturing, contribute to dangerous Air Quality Indexes in the Twin
Cities.

 Format:           

 Short presentations by a panel of experts familiar with the topic will be
followed by an extensive Q & A session with the audience.

 Notes on the proceedings will be taken and an evaluation sheet will be
distributed to audience participants.

 Information gathered from the forums will be included in a final report
that will contain the top concerns from audience members, issues identified
by panelists, and recommendations for change.

 Light organic refreshments will be served.
