For anyone in St. Paul and elsewhere who may be concerned about local
control, here's a possible resolution for caucuses tonight.

WHEREAS, community members need to have a voice in the land-use and
development decisions made for the communities they live in, and

WHEREAS, county and township governments are the most direct form of
representation, and convene the democratic processes closest to the people,
and

WHEREAS, townships and other local governments currently have the authority
under Minnesota law to protect their communities and public health from
harmful developments by passing land-use planning rules that are more, but
not less restrictive than state regulations, and

WHEREAS, community and township rights are important when the state
government is slow to respond to community concerns, or when state standards
are too weak to meet local needs,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the ______Party supports initiatives that
maintain community and township rights to enact land use ordinances and
rules, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the ________Party opposes any attempt to weaken
township or county rights.
