Tim -

Since I have been corrected for going off topic I will confine my
comments to points that have already been brought up in this forum.

A woman wrote in about ten days ago that her son had been beaten
up rather badly in the stairwell at his school. That she had contacted
the area superintendent and that after a month that he had finally gotten
back to her with a message that he was uninterested in pursuing the
issue.

Parts of the rather vague job description posted by Tim includes the
following:

In a message dated 3/1/4 13:25:01, Tim Erickson writes that part of the
job description of the Area Superintendents are:

   * Handling and responding to all issues, problems
and concerns of every area school.
  * Ensuring equal access as well as satisfaction of
all services provided by the district central office.
  * Processing of PPC Transfer and Expulsion Requests. >>

Clearly the Area Superintendent did not show satisfactory job
performance in these areas in this case. While the incident is anecdotal,
it demonstrates the lack of interest in the welfare of the children that
these bureaucrats are accused of habitually demonstrating.

Perhaps the boy was gay, or fat, wore glasses, or was a Jew --
who cares. Children should be safe from harm in their schools and
they are not. This is a problem and it should not be blown off.

It is because of the body of anecdotal evidence that they are not doing
an effective job that I believe that the positions should be cut. They are
not doing their jobs.

And I looked into it. Public schools insist that children who are home
schooled be reported on, tested and the schools keep these records. There
should be around 1,100 in Saint Paul if the city conforms to the average
for the state. But the Area Superintendent that I tried to speak to could
not be bothered to call me back. If you were told that they do not have
records on this, the answer was not entirely truthful.
