WOW! Using your car as a traffic controlling factor works only with
reasonable people. When you start your little speed calming exercise,
please be sure your target drivers are reasonable people. I have no idea
how you ascertain that, but doesn't recent news about the rising number
of road rage incidents cause you concern about the safety of such an
exercise? I may have misinterpreted your post and if I have, please
forgive me. wan The Midway Lurker

As a followup to the discussion on traffic: Minnesota
ranks number one in crashes caused by inattentive
drivers, according to a study released last year and
covered widely by the print media. Even the police
and safety professionals are now using the term crash
instead of accident because so many drivers are doing
stupid things that lead to people being killed or
injured in cars (not to mention pedestrians and
bicyclists).

The practice of driving the speed limit to "force"
traffic calming is a popular concept, called the PACE
CAR. It was created by David Engwicht in Australia. A
NE Mpls community used it last summer to slow down
traffic in their neighborhood. I think it is a very
good idea; after all if we don't drive the speed
limit, why should anyone else? I use it every day on
Marshall Avenue. You can find out more at
