Tom, I have a favor to ask. You haven't said what school this is, and that's fine. It's not important. Now, I'm guessing they have other sources of money like endowments, etc that add on to your 5 grand. If that's an additional 6 grand, meaning they spend as much as the SPPS, you don't have an argument -- but if it's like 1 grand for a total of 6, you have a great argument, IMHO. I was wondering if you could get us some more numbers on this school -- the total budget per student, the number of teachers and administrators, stuff like that. Let's make some real comparisons and see what we get. Not that I'm claiming that school can be done totally by the numbers, not at all. But we have a serious money crunch right now, and I see it only getting a LOT worse as time goes on. I am curious if there are other ways of organizing things that are substantially different, is all. I'm just looking for big changes. I'm sure that ESL (or ELL) is a special problem requiring more money, and so on -- but if we have a baseline of seriously motivated parents (ie, the 'rents are shelling out major buckage) what does that cost? Then we can look at what the district gets for other things according to formulae, and what they spend, etc. But I think that a private school might make a good baseline, and might show some large discrepencies that need explaining (maybe they can be, maybe they can't).
