For those who participated in and are interested in the ongoing discussions about the St. Paul Public Schools 2004-2005, I recommend taking a look at the work that Jennifer Armstrong and NEAT have done on their web site.

They have dug up links to information and resources that respond to many of the questions raised in our discussion. Its clear from looking at their page, that our work here in the St. Paul Issues Forum is having an impact on the community wide discussion.

My understanding is that there will be more to come.....

Here is some of what you will find at this page:

Why do we have a budget deficit? -------------------------------- Information provided at the Feb 19 Forum.

Are our comments/input really going
to make a difference?
--------------------------------
"How has SPPS used our input from last years meetings? Are our comments/input really going to make a difference? How [is the district] going to do this?"

What should it cost to deliver an
excellent education?
--------------------------------
This is the same question the state is struggling with. It would be presumptious to think we could find the answer, but there is quite a bit of information out there worth looking at.

How do we know whether or not the
district is operating efficiently?
--------------------------------
State Auditor's report provides much detail related to operating efficiency.

Strategic Alignment of Resources
- Leadership
--------------------------------
A number of questions have been raised with respect to cost-beneft role of district leadership.

Where's the detail?
--------------------------------
"My problem with what I've seen of the SPSS budget, and there may be a more detailed version that I haven't see, is that these priorities have to be divined out of columns of numbers like reading tea leaves."
