The MPCA has finished a project where all of their air quality permits are now available for on-line viewing. So you can go look up the local toxic industry, see what they predicted they'd be spewing forth into the air you breathe and feel all warm and fuzzy inside with the comfort that comes from knowing.... Well, whatever.

Personally, I'm ticked pink to be able to go and look up the pile of permits issued to Minnesota Brewing (RIP)/Gopher State Ethanol. I can now see that the permits were written six and seven years ago, issued five and six years ago, expired a year ago, and will be renewed at some indeterminate date that is at least a year away. What the permits online don't tell you of course is that they're all pretty much the rosy predictions of half a decade ago, long debunked by the reality of the more recent numbers determined by a federal agency. Like the jobs-growth predictions of some Republican president, this information has turned out to be embarrassingly inaccurate. But also like the jobs-growth predictions, the reality of what's going on only hurts the poor sops who live that life, not the rich people who loot our public treasuries for personal gain.

So go take a look, see what your local toxic industry is serving up for lunch in your neighborhood, and then contact your legislator to urge them to do what is necessary to change the course of this agency. Remember, this is an agency that has ONLY once denied a permit. How many court cases like the one involving the tire burning plant in Preston will it take to drive home to this agency that they have a job to do and they're not doing it? Simply publishing scores of information of questionable accuracy on the internet does nothing for those who live real lives breathing junk while still paying the taxes that support this Agency.
