First thanks to Mr Swope for his finding interesting tidbits of news.
In a story in the Strib
DOWNTOWN HOTELS - Low Occupancy Rates In St. Paul: http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4661327.html (Next to last story on page)
While probably not something of Great Importance or an earth shakingly monumentally large problem, I find a number of irregularities in the article and just have to comment.
"Downtown St. Paul hasn't added hotel beds in more than 20 years"
If I remember right the number of rooms available at the now Town Square Raddison were increased when it was renovated as was the Rivertfront Raddison. Well within the last 10 years.
"As St. Paul ........., its hotels are aging, "
What about the renovation of the hotel across the street from the NHL Stadium? I just read in the Pioneer Press a story about how the St Paul Hotel is going through a multi-million $$ renovation, one of many over the past couple of decades. The former Holiday Inn (Now Town Square Raddison) was totally renovated when it was re-opened within the last 5-10 years. The Embasy Suits has also had a number of renovations over the past 10 years as it changed names back and forth. The Riverfront Raddison has had a number of renovations in the past 5-10 years.
"Nearly half of the rooms sat unused in 2003, according to industry studies."
This does surprise me, I thought since the NHL, and all the Rock Concerts at the Stadium and the former Day's Inn getting all Swanky, that things were just rockin and rollin in the Hospitality Industry in DT. I guess things aren't so rosey, but then the writer of the story got so much else wrong, who is to say what the truth is.
