"Ethanol plant fire extinguished

DENNIS GALE
Associated Press

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A year ago - March 15, 2003 - farmer-investors and officials gathered at the grand opening of Chancellor's $52 million Great Plains Ethanol Plant.

Sunday morning, firefighters rushed to the plant to extinguish a fire."

"Not a good way to celebrate our anniversary, but we'll fix it and go on," Rick Serie, the plant's general manager, said Sunday."

Maybe not for the plant manager and owners, but certainly for the surrounding environment.

"over 150 firefighters were called to a fire at the Great Plains Ethanol"

But according to GSE plant Management, whoever they are today they shift plant CEO's like most people change socks lately, we don't need to worry about GSE. They have complete confidence in the St Paul Fire Department responding properly.

Well I agree I would expect them to respond properly too, but the fact is that is AFTER THE FACT. You really need to see the Firefighter side of the story

"Firefighters React To Ethanol Fire
This kind of fire call is one that raises questions for local fire departments.
Tea Assistant Fire Chief Grant Vanriesen says, "When you think of the ethanol plant and something of that scale, are we prepared? You start to think about fire flows."
As firefighters pulled into the Great Plains Ethanol plant, they saw the flames, and knew they were in for a long fight."

Ya just have to love ETHANOL PLANTS they are such wonderfully great things to have a block away. Do we have 150 firefighter in the St Paul Department?
