My wife and I went to the rally too. It was really great to hear the
speakers, who used humor and hope to rally the crowd. A far different
tone from some of the hateful sounding voices I heard over the radio from
that 'other' rally calling for a hate amendment to the Minnesota
Constitution.
Some of our City Council members were there, and the resolution was read
to the crowd, who cheered our brave council members.
I'm not good at counting crowds. It looked to me like about 300,000
people. Hey, just kidding! People were crowded onto the steps, filled
the road in front of the Capital, and spread down the hill 20 yards into
the lawn area.
A humorous remark -
"If Bush wants to help get the economy going, he should let gay men get
married"
A sign that made me choke up a little:
"Proud parent of a beloved gay son."
Another good one:
"Love > Hate "
Senator Mee Moua spoke, and said she would do everything she could in the
senate to stop this bill, declaring that "If I let this happen to gays and
lesbians, they may come for me next" (This is a paraphrase of her
statment. I didn't write it down.
