* Godwin's Law [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups.
Hi folks,
I'd just wanted to mention that I really really hate Godwin's Law. You know why? Because it denies the possibility of similar cretins and systems happening again.
It'd be a much better law that says departure from reality automatically loses whatever argument was in progress and guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length.. That one certainly has happened, and will happen, many times in various forums and discussions.
Just an aside of sorts. Thanks.
