Hi All!
By a 50-80 vote, an amendment by Rep. Mariani to force GSE to close on 7/30/04,
amended to 7/30/05 was defeated just now. Just a FYI
Well, that wasn't an unexpected result. Which allows me once again to update the timeline for GSE on the website, and add a recent document from the MPCA. http://209.98.144.66/GSE/
I also have to add a comment on the document released by the MPCA along with an Office memorandum which is pretty lame to say the least. Apparently the MPCA feels that if they send us enough information (like the emissions report that is take from the MDH report) and say things they will fool us into thinking they are actually doing something. But you have to wonder when you read:
"To fill in the data gaps and get a more complete picture of emissions, MPCA staff met with testing companies who have performed emission testing at ethanol production facilities including GSE. The MPCA asked that these companies TRY to develop methods to improve detection limit for a chemical called Acrolein. Acrolein is a pollutant that has proven difficult to quantify in ethanol stacks due to the high moisture content.
Based on the response from the testing companies, additional emission tests will be planned."
Well isn't that just pleasant, they are gonna plan for more emission tests. Despite the fact that they are already known to emit: Acetaldehyde, Acetic Acid, Acetone, Acrolein, BENSENE, Carbonyl Sulfide, Dimethyl Sulfide, Ethanol, Ethylbensene, Formaldehyde, Furfuraldehyde, Lactic Acid, MEK/butyrals, Methanol, Styrene, Tolualdehyde, Toluene. But they don't tell us how much they are emitting.
Do some google searches and find out what these chemicals are. I think you will want to move right on down here and get in on the TOXIC environment.
