Remember - 2 Posts Per Person Per Day

Jim makes a good point, distinguishing between a person's decision to
run and the electorate's decision about who will serve. It's important
to note, however, that people generally don't mount particularly
dramatic campaigns for district council seats (though there have been
exceptions...), and turnout tends to be extremely limited. For me, that
makes the election issues less significant than the final question of
what a candidate offers to an office that is significantly different,
wiser, better informed, more responsible, etc., than the incumbent.
As an elected official, I see public service as just that -- service,
and service to my community, rather than service to myself. If a person
has something truly valuable to offer and is willing to serve, go for it
-- make those distinctions clear, campaign properly, win, and serve
well. If not, then consider volunteering in any number of other
capacities in support of district council work (such as for various
events or on subcommittees that at least in some districts include
non-council members), on advisory committees to City Council, County
Board, School Board, or in support of any of the public, nonprofit, or
private organizations that contribute to our community in some terrific
ways. And, if you stay active with the district council, you'll get
known, get to know the current rep, and see what makes most sense for
your next step.
Good luck!
