       What's New In Your Neighborhood?
==================================================

The committee interviewing candidates for Police Chief will narrow the field to 5 candidates today. I hope that someone posts the name to this list, when they become public.

I find it interesting, that the top nine candidates for the position - were all internal candidates. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing and I'm certainly not assuming an external candidate would be better.

But, it does raise the following questions in my mind:

1) Was there a lack of external interest in the St. Paul Chief of Police position?

2) Is there some predisposition in St. Paul towards hiring internally? Did we even conduct a national search?

3) Or, do we have such a highly qualified force, that we were able to field nine candidates better than those available anywhere else in the country?

Again, I'm not criticizing the process at this point - I'm just curious...?
