NEWS FOR THE MACALESTER-GROVELAND NEIGHBORHOOD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ St Kate's Parking TONIGHT; Demolition & Construction at 1992 Grand; St Thomas Expansion Deliberations; Brush Site Cancelled; Mac-Grove/Highland Neighborhood Cleanup SAINT KATE'S PARKING, NEW CONSTRUCTION AT 1992 GRAND DISCUSSED TONIGHT The Mac-Groveland Housing and Land Use Committee will be discussing parking around the College of Saint Catherine tonight, Wednesday, May 12th. In November 2002, the Saint Paul Planning Commission approved a proposal by the College of Saint Catherine to amend its campus' zoning permit, called a Conditional Use Permit. The proposal that was approved relieved the College of its previous parking requirements in specific situations - when enrollment jumped by more than 10% or 300 students. When Saint Catherine's Conditional Use Permit was revised in November 2002, the College committed to do two things: a) create a transportation management plan within six months, which has been completed; and b) have the Planning Commission review the Conditional Use Permit in one year's time. Today, the Macalester-Groveland Community Council would like feedback on how parking is working after the approval of the revisions. Based on the feedback from residents and others, the Planning Commission can decide to give its final approval to the parking requirement reduction, revoke the changes, or apply additional conditions to the Conditional Use Permit. If you cannot make the meeting, feedback can be emailed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (email preferred), or given over the phone at 651-695-4000. The meeting will also discuss the proposed demolition of a home at 1992 Grand Avenue, and replacement with a 3-unit residential building. Frank Greczyna from Pineview Builders will share with us his plans for the property, though the project requires no zoning changes or variances. The meeting will start at 7:00pm at the Edgcumbe Recreation Center, 320 South Griggs St. ST THOMAS EXPANSION DELIBERATIONS SET FOR THIS THURSDAY, MAY 13TH At its regularly-scheduled Board Meeting this Thursday, May 13th, the Macalester-Groveland Community Council will hold its preliminary and perhaps final deliberations on the current proposal for the expansion of the University of Saint Thomas. After years of debate among community members, Saint Thomas has submitted its application for expansion to the Planning Commission for review. The Community Council held a public hearing on the proposal on April 29th attended by approximately 100 people, and has received many additional written comments. There will be NO PERIOD FOR PUBLIC COMMENT DURING THE MEETING. Spectators will be required to sit respectfully and quietly as our volunteer board members come to a decision about the proposal. The period for comment at a meeting was April 29th, and was advertised in multiple ways, including a newsletter delivered to every address in the neighborhood, and through the Villager newspaper, which is also delivered to every household. Background information, including the Community Council's Criteria on the expansion to-date can be found on the Mac-Groveland website at http://www.macgrove.org/council/issues/stthomas.htm. The Thursday board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 at Edgcumbe Recreation Center, 320 S. Griggs St. Discussion of the Saint Thomas expansion proposal may begin around 7:30 or shortly thereafter. MAC-GROVELAND AND HIGHLAND: CLEAR OUT YOUR JUNK THIS SATURDAY!
