Hi folks....

On May 12, a presentation on the health status of the refugees will be
broadcast on Channel 6, the metro cable outlet beginning at 2:30 PM.

The refugee situation continues to be challenging not only because of the
Hmong resettlement, but also because of the continuing arrival of refugees
from east and west Africa, Bosnian, and we recently learned of between 100
and 400 Burmese are also expected to arrive in Ramsey County. Last year,
560 refugees settled in Ramsey County, most from Africa. In the next twelve
months, we expect over 2000 refugees. The raw number seems high, but the
average refugee family is 6 people, so we are talking about 330-400
families. That view is helpful in thinking about housing and other
services.

Rob Fulton,
Highland Park and Director of Saint Paul - Ramsey Department of Public
Health
