May 3rd at Harding High * May 4th at Humboldt High Info: http://www.e-democracy.org/stpaul/chief.html -------------------------------------------------- It appears that this complaint was done so without full knowledge of the facts. If os what was the impetus for the complaint? That is: Why were the complainants so interested in filing the complaint that they didn't get the facts straight before they filed it? The offer to purchase tickets to the NHL All Star Game was made by the NHL, not the Minnesota Wild. I believe that the NHL is not a lobbyist principal in Minnesota. May 3rd at Harding High * May 4th at Humboldt High Info: http://www.e-democracy.org/stpaul/chief.html -------------------------------------------------- It was a bad decision by the Board. Here is what they said. Yes,the Board acknowledged that the Wild were registered lobbyist principals this year. However, the Wild came in and said that they no longer have lobbyists and that they spent less than the $500 required to be considered a lobbyist principal. Thus, based on these two facts, they gift did not count!! The Board got it wrong. I think it is immaterial whether they spent the $500 or have lobbyists. They are registered as a principal and that is all that matters. However, it is unlikely the Board will accept the mayor's claim that the city council can accept gifts via a city council vote. I smashed that argument pretty solid. Also, note I did not file under MN stat. 471 which makes gifts from interested parties illegal. Gaertner will not enforce the law, leaving it up to the city attorney to do so. I researched this VERY ISSUE, before Mr. Schultz and I filed our previous complaint against the Mayor, for his flight to Denver on a private jet last year and there was clear evidence that the Minnesota Wild have lobbyists. Pulling out my research I found that the Wild, or entities there of, clearly are registered as lobbyists at the State. First there is; Minnesota Hockey Inc. Identification Number: 5517 317 Washington St St Paul, MN 55102 Lobbyists Registered Registration Joel Carlson 8692 2/14/03 Then there is: Minn Hockey Ventures Group Identification Number: 4661 317 Washington St St Paul, MN 55102-1609 Lobbyists Registered Registration Timothy T Welch 8947 2/26/98 3/19/04 317 Washington Street, is the address of the Minnesota Wild. Two lobbyists for Hockey are registered there. It appears to me that the Wild have not one, but two lobbying arms. I think the State Campaign Finance and Disclosure Board really blew this one. Why is Dave Schultz's and my first Complaint now at the Court of Appeals, when this one was dismissed. I fail to see the distinction. Daniel D. Why cause the Wild and it's owners are not "Lobbiest" under the definition of the law. Well that just about opens the door pretty wide doesn't it? Well, I am not a lobbiest either according to the definitions of the State Law s I guess if I can afford it I can buy a council member or even the Mayor... a few perks here few perks there.... No Problem.. Any member of the Council or Mayor who is looking for FREE COFFEE anytime they need it... so long as we get to keep doing what ever it is we want (ie GSE types of illegal activity) and never have to fear the City or its inspectors.... Just sign here and COFFEE IS FREE, (well if you want to pay for it out of campaign funds that is fine too). How the State Campaign Finance Board couldn't figure out the the owners of the WILD who are lobbying all the time but are not a "Lobbiest" is beyond me. -- Sincerely, John Birrenbach W 7th Neighborhood, St Paul MN Political & Business Consulting === Focusing on Internet Technologies === http://www.birrenbach.com/ === Web Hosting for Candidates and Issues === http://209.98.144.66/ === Harmony Cedar Quality Amish Products === http://www.harmonycedar.com ====================================== "Six years on the council has trained me to feign interest for long periods of time" Chris Coleman Jan 21, 2004 ------------------------------ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
