Yesterday's Strib had an absolutely astonishing
article regarding the negative effects that Ed.MN's
work rules and contract tactics have had on MN public
schools.

Teacher contracts contribute to layoffs
The article was not astonishing because of anything
that I didn't already know, or anything that I haven't
already shared with this forum for that matter.
No it was astonishing because they printed it at all
(Kudos to John Walsh and Ron Nixon; I hope you're not
having to look for work this morning).
While most of the article was not specific to SPPS, it
did include this bit of information that I was not
aware of:
"St. Paul expects a $12 million deficit next school
year; its teachers' contract for 2001-03 increased
total pay by $13.2 million."
I cannot wait to see the marketing BS that Progressive
Minnesota PAC and the SPFoT (union) comes up with for
the next SPPS levy referendum that is sure to be on
it's way; it's going to have to be a doozy.
Guess they're gonna have to part with "it's for the
children" at long last.
