This is clearly the concern that I was raising. However, its not necessarily clear to me - that to teach work/trade skills necessarily comes at the expense of producing educated citizens.


As with many issues, the best solution is likely found somewhere in the middle, with some dangers at either extreme.

Clearly, many students aren't being served by our high schools - and if these programs increase graduation rates and/or better meet the needs of individual students (with very specific needs), then they MIGHT be a good idea.

Again, I'm not opposed to this or other similar initiatives. But, I think that we need to keep a close eye on the implications of such technical training and make sure that we're also preparing citizens with critical thinking and decision making skills (in a more general sense).
