A memorial service is being planned for former President Reagan. I'm wondering if any
other demonstrations are planned to counter the unseemly eulogizing of a man who was,
at best, simple and easily manipulated and, at worst, the knowing supporter of death
squads in S. America.
"The death toll was staggering -- an estimated 70,000 or more political killings in El
Salvador, possibly 20,000 slain from the contra war in Nicaragua, about 200 political
"disappearances" in Honduras and some 100,000 people eliminated during a resurgence of
political violence in Guatemala." - Consortiumnews.com
This is very tricky, as everyone is obviously walking on eggs in order not to
criticize "the Gipper." I don't like it myself, considering that his last years were
so dreadful. But history is being rewritten, and those who were too young to remember
need to know the other side of the story. A demonstration will be held in Washington
on Friday the 11th in an attempt to balance the near reverence that all our media seem
willing to engage in. See www.dcindymedia.org for more information.
