The discussion of the virtues of inclusiveness is itself becoming far more
fractious than the perceived offense that touched it off.  Eric Mitchell
simply questioned Dave Shove's use of the first person plural, as in:  "WE
improved OUR City Council. . ." and with good reason.  Shave doesn't vote
in the St. Paul City Council election and isn't governed by it--for better
or worse.

Nobody said his comments weren't welcome, and everyone seems only to have
found a way to disagree about how true that is.  We can all tell Phoenix
how it should do its business as long as we don't claim its democratic
processes as our own.  (In this day and age, Tienjin participates in the
economic venue of St. Paul as much as Roseville.)  It's only to be
expected, however, that our comments will be given more weight in a
municipality in which we live and vote.
