Once again, I find myself having to apologize for using words that were
probably inappropriate for the Forum. However, the fact remains that Finney
resigned as chief of police during the controversy that centered on his "son"
beating a woman at Lucy's for refusing the sexual advances of another woman, whom he
had brought to the club with him.
It is my impression that he resigned because that was the price of getting
his "son" off the hook. His "son" was cleared of wrong doing (putting stitches
in the woman's head with a bottle, drawing or threatening to draw his gun,
threatening witnesses with his father's influence, fleeing the scene of the
crime, refusing or avoiding taking alcohol and drug blood tests after the incident,
etc.) by the police board, but a number of questions remain about the
incident.
Added together, along with a number of other problems, did not leave me with
a very good impression of the man's performance. There has to be someone out
there who is better than our ex-chief of police. Much as I hate to admit it,
I'm ready to support for Thune for mayor. He is for the smoking ban
(originated the resolution) and he is generally against the stadium tax. Election to
the office of mayor should not be based on whether or not you like someone
personally, but on how you think that person will perform on the job.
