The partisan rhetoric is heating up, as to be expected in the aftermath of a major political party convention. With the Mayor's endorsement of Bush, presidential politics has certainly become a St. Paul Issues (for the time being).
However, as passionate as we are on this issue - its important that we exercise a little judgement and self control.
If someone posts factually incorrect information - I expect and hope that others will post corrections. However, this is not an excuse to embark on personal attacks or insults.
I'll point out, that much of the population is frustrated by the polarization of political debate and the mean spiritedness of it. While passion is a good thing - angry attacks turn people away from politics and public policy.
For those of you who are frustrated by the tone of the political discussion, please do your part to change it.
1) Thank those participants who post thoughtful and civil commentaries.
2) Be a model poster - start a new topic, or post a thoughtful (and polite) response to an existing topic.
3) Try to ignore the "attacks" that might be sent your way, for posting an innocent question or challenging a popular viewpoint.

Final note: Despite popular opinion, it is possible to hold a passionate or even radical point of view, without assuming that everyone on the other side is "evil," "stupid," or "ignorant." I participate in this this forum, because I believe that very well intentioned, intelligent, and rational people can have radically different points of view on important issues and I want to hear from them.
My biggest fear for our country, is that we might forget this. That we forget how to disagree with each other and don't take the time to listen and understand what the other side has to say.
Best wishes,
