Do all new apartment building automatically run into neighborhood opposition?

Of course. :-)

No, seriously, I have to ask why there? Cheaper land? This is a neighborhood that's full of students and immigrants, and in general there's a lot of money going into fixing up houses. It's very diverse, generally, and very much on the upswing from what I can see.

I think a project like this might look really bizarre in just a few year's time if the 'hood keeps on keepin' on.

What would it replace? What is immediately next to it? If it's in the semi-commericial parts of Thomas, I don't see a problem at all, even if it is a bit tall. But if it is to be plunked down right next to a single family house, that doesn't sound good.

Zoning doesn't take appearance into account, only use. I consider this a huge problem. Appearance is more important to selling houses in the end, and if a project like this destroys the neighborhood "feel" than it's a taking of a kind. Zoning is supposedly about not allowing a taking by private parties.

But it's possible on Thomas that this would fit in. Well, maybe a story less or so, but ... :-)
