I agree with Jolene's post yesterday. I think the
effort to recall Mayor Kelly is a poor use of time,
effort and resources. I dislike Mayor Kelly as much as
anybody, and will work strongly for one of his
opponents next year, but right now there are far more
important battles to be fought.

First, we must secure Minnesota for John Kerry. The
reason the Shrub and little Dick keep coming here are
because Minnesota IS A BATTLEGROUND STATE! Get out and
lit drop for Kerry, work a phone bank, work on a
mailing.

Secondly, the DFL has a shot at winning back the State
House. While our DFL reps are pretty secure in the
City, a number of DFL campaigns in the suburbs can use
some help. March in a parade, go door knocking, help
with a lit drop for them.

If asked, I will sign a petition to recall Mayor
Kelly, but nothing more. I am set to march in a parade
for Betty McCollum tomorrow, will phone for the DFL on
Wednesday and am calling for John Kerry on Thursday.
This is where I am putting my time and efforts.

Let's face it, since the election last fall and the
shift in balance on the St. Paul City Council, Kelly
has lost a lot of his power. Witness the stadium
battles and now the smoking fight. It was Jay Benanav
who engineered the compromise in the St. Thomas
dispute, NOT MAYOR KELLY OR HIS STAFF. They were
virtually absent from that battle. Kelly is now
essentially a paper tiger. He's got his veto and not
much else and with his endorsement of Bush, he's cut a
lot more ties.

Let's make Kelly look like a fool and win every
precinct in St. Paul for Kerry and lay the groundwork
to boot Kelly out next year.
