I'm a little puzzled by Paul Nelson's post. He says that we should replace the #16 bus with a streetcar and that there is room for both lrt and streetcars.
If he is referring to electric streetcars on steel rails, that would require two separate tracks and overhead power cables. Two sets of tracks because the lrt would need to pass the streetcar as it stopped more frequently (unless he pictures some kind of siding every other block for the streetcar.) Two sets of cables because the streetcar pantograph (or trolley) can't be in contact with the cable at the time that the lrt goes by. Would the streetcar pick up people at the curb, in which case the rails diverge quite a bit from their path down the street? Would it stop in the traffic lane?
