I have been silent, largely because I have been out of town. I finally
read the information on the billboard settlement and someone should be
hanging their head. One of the billboards that the industry will be
allowed to rebuild is the double sign at Grand and Ayd Mill. This
completely dilapidated sign was so fragile that it actually waved in the
wind. It fell down, all of its own accord. Clear Channel filed a
police report offering the opinion that the board fell down because it
was vandalized. There was no evidence it was vandalized. Only Clear
Channel suggesting it was.

Clear Channel never filed a permit asking to rebuild it. They never
filed a law suit trying to rebuild it. But the City Attorney
recommended settling the law suit before it was even filed because "both
parties agree that the evidence indicates the sign was vandalized
causinig it to fall to the ground."

Few words but incompetent come to mind when a city attorney would
recommend a settlement like this. On the other hand I suppose the
administration could simply have decided that getting rid of billboards
was not important and since they don't care anyway, bring um on.

So those of you who have enjoyed seeing the houses and trees along Grand
and Ayd Mill will now have the opportunity in the next 30 days to see a
new billboard rise to stand another hundred years.

Way to go city attorney.
